Obituary of Mary Jane Thatcher Tanhey - 1926
Mrs. Jane Tanhey was born near Chatham, Canada, February 14, 1845 [1843] and died at her home in Atlanta, Missouri, surrounded by her loved ones July 22, 1926, being at the time of her death 81 years, 5 months and 15 days old [83 years, 5 months and 8 days]. Another good woman has gone to her reward. Her long life has been one of usefulness. She has raised up to manhood and womanhood four boys and three girls.
Sister Tanhey united with the Christian church when but a young girl at Detroit, Mich., and has been faithful to her church and Saviour until death. She hath done what she could. Mrs. Tanhey has been a patient sufferer for many years and has expressed her desire many times to depart and be with Christ, for it was far better. Good deeds marked her path all through her life. Sister Tanhey expressed two outstanding characteristics in her life, her faith in Jesus and her great concern about her children. These two topics were constantly on her mind. In death she did not falter, but calmly passed out of this life to the one she looked and longed for.
She is survived by the following children, Miss Olive Hanes, Jacob S., Mrs. Oliva McMillan, Fred F., John E., Nannie M., and Roscoe C., four brothers and one sister, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren with many other relatives to mourn their loss. But the hardest blow of all is that separation of mother and daughter, the close association that has existed between them all these years of sickness.
The funeral services were held at the Christian church Saturday morning at 11 a.m. after which the remains were taken to old Mt. Tabor for interment. A large number of her friends paid their last token of love to her in this life. The funeral services were conducted by D.T. Griffiths of Chillicothe Saturday morning July 24. The relatives attending the funeral services from out of town were: Mrs. Olive Haines of Millard; Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Tanhey of Washington, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tanhey of Webster Groves, Mo; Mrs. G.W. McMillin and son, Bobby, of Rock Island, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Webster White and children of Anabel, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Thatcher of Moberly; Mrs. Tom Thatcher of Macon; Mr. and Mrs. Will Brooks, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Thatcher, Mrs. Nancy Cooley, Mrs. Cordia Prater of Moberly and L.K. Fowler of Macon.
