Thomas was born in Mansfield, Connecticut to Ebenezer Baldwin and Ruth Swift. He was married to Seviah Crane in the year 1807 and together they had thirteen children. Their oldest child they named Ebenezer Baldwin after Thomas' father. Ebenezer married Emily Coates, their second child they named Anna who married William Johnson, then came Daniel Baldwin who married Content Wise. Daniel was the name of Ebenezer's paternal Grandfather. Their fourth child was Hannah who married Timothy Underwood, next came Hezekiah, named after Seviah's Father Hezekiah Crane. Hezekiah Baldwin was born Oct 5, 1814 and died on April 1st, 1815. He is buried next to three of his siblings and his Paternal Grandparents in the Atwoodville Cemetery, Connecticut. Philena was next and I have not been able to find a husband for her. She died March 8, 1843 at the age of 24. Monroe Baldwin was the seventh child born to Thomas and Seviah. He died Oct 28, 1824 and is also buried in the Atwoodville Cemetery. Bio section contributed by: Laura Smith

Thomas Baldwin was born on Oct 2nd, 1787 in Mansfield, Connecticut to Ebenezer Baldwin and Ruth Swift. He was the youngest of eleven children, having six sisters and four brothers. He married Seviah Crane, daughter of Hezekiah Crane and Rachel Hall on July 12th, 1807 and together they had thirteen children. Thomas and Seviah's Mothers, Ruth and Rachel, were first cousins, thus making Thomas and his wife Seviah, second cousins.

Thomas and Seviah named their oldest child Ebenezer Newton Baldwin, probably after Thomas' father Ebenezer. Ebenezer married Emily Coates in Benson, Vermont and they had eleven children. Ebenezer was born in 1808 and died in 1889 outside of Beloit, Wisconsin. He is buried in the Baldwin Cemetery alongside his wife Emily.

The second child of Thomas and Seviah was Anna. She married William Johnson and they had ten children. Anna was born in the year 1810 and died in 1868. Anna is buried in Bedlam Road Cemetery in Chaplin, Connecticut.

Daniel Baldwin, the third oldest, married Content Wise in New York. Daniel was the name of Thomas' paternal Grandfather so Daniel was more than likely named after him. Daniel was born in the year 1812 and died in 1867.

Their fourth child, another daughter, they named Hannah. She was born in 1814 and died in 1898 in Arkwright, New York. She married Timothy Underwood and together they had five children that I'm aware of.

Next came Hezekiah, named after Seviah's Father Hezekiah Crane. Hezekiah Baldwin was born Oct 5, 1814 and died on April 1st, 1815 when he was not quite six months old. He is buried next to three of his siblings and his Paternal Grandparents in the Atwoodville Cemetery in Connecticut.

Philena Baldwin was born on September 22, 1818 and died on March 8th, 1843. I have no other information on Philena.

Monroe Baldwin was born in the year 1820, the seventh child born to Thomas and Seviah. He died Oct 28, 1824 and is also buried in the Atwoodville Cemetery.

Seviah was born on Nov 27, 1822 and died on Oct 23, 1824 in Mansfield, Connecticut.

Amasa was born on June 11, 1824 and also died on Oct 23, 1824, same date as his sister Seviah and five days before his brother Monroe. I'm making an educated guess that there was an epidemic in the area but have yet to look for any info. in newspapers. (I'm hoping to find something) There are three headstones for the Baldwin children in the Atwoodville cemetery. Seviah and Amasa share a headstone and I'm assuming it's because they died the same day, Monroe has a headstone as well as Hezekiah Baldwin. The children's Grandparents, Ebenezer Baldwin and Ruth Swift Baldwin are buried next to them in the Atwoodville Cemetery, just past the dogwood tree. In researching Ebenezer and Ruth, I located their farm which isn't far from the cemetery. Ebenezer and Ruth have children buried in Mansfield but chose to be buried with their Grandchildren.

From land documents found in the town hall in Mansfield, Connecticut, Thomas and Seviah sold their farm the following year in 1825. Perhaps they needed a fresh start. They moved to New York and are living in Busti, Chautauqua county during the 1850 census but I have yet to find an exact date as to when they left Connecticut. I have found a Thomas Baldwin living in Urbana, New York during the 1840 census and believe that to be our Thomas Baldwin. His oldest son Ebenezer Baldwin and wife Emily are also living in Urbana in 1840.

Monroe J was born on September 29, 1825. He only lived a short time, dying on September 15, 1827, just over the age of two. I'm assuming he was born while they were still somewhere in Connecticut but I haven't been able to locate where they were living.

Orilla was born on October 18, 1827 and is listed as living with her parents during the 1850 census of Busti, New York.

Their son Mansfield was born on March 10, 1829 and all records except his civil war registration show him being born in Connecticut. Mansfield was the name of the town that Thomas and Seviah were from in Connecticut. Mansfield married Electa Carpenter sometime around the year 1848 and had five children. Electa's obituary read that she lost 2 babies in a housefire early in her life.

Thomas and Seviah's last child was named Windham, which was the name of the county from where they lived in Connecticut. Windham was born August 10, 1831 in New York and married
