MRS. CARL SCHUETZ, (nee Pohl)

Mrs. Carl Schuetz, 45, departed this life on Sunday evening, January 18, 1931, about eight o'clock, after a long illness and following an operation performed some weeks ago in hopes that this might be the means of improvement and saving her life. Skilled physicians and trained nurses did all that human hand could perform and for a time it did appear that she would be able to again resume her place in the household and finally be restored to health, but all availed for aught and her strength gradually grew weaker until the end came on Sunday night.

Mrs. Schuetz was the sixth among nine children born to Mr. George J. and Katherine M. Bilhorn Pohl. She was born in Clarion Township on June 14th. 1885. She was given the name of Caroline Barbara in holy baptism. Ten months after her birth the family removed to a farm east of Mendota. Here she attended the religious instructions as imparted by the Lutheran church and was confirmed on Palm Sunday, April 3, 1900. She then attended high school for some time. In 1909 she came to Mendota with her parents. A year later, on October 5th. 1910, she was united in marriage with Mr. Carl Schuetz. This union proved to be a happy one and one child, a son, George Schuetz was born. The deceased was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran church, a constant attendant upon the services and all through her career she has tried to exemplify the teachings of her church and all that was good. She took an active interest in the Ladies Aid society and her many acquaintances always spoke of her in the highest terms. Her family and friends were greatly grieved by the afflictions which came upon her. During her suffering she experienced much love and drew richly from the fountain of spiritual grace. She was patient and resigned and passed peacefully to that other world where loved ones were waiting to greet her. Her death has caused sincere sorrow and heartaches and sympathy is expressed to the bereaved members of the family.

Mrs. Schuetz was preceded in death by her father, Mr. George J. Pohl, a little brother, Louis, and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Setchell, who died at the age of 42 years.

She leaves to mourn, her husband, Mr. Carl Schuetz, her only son, George, her aged mother, Mrs. Katherine Pohl, and the following brothers and sisters; Miss Elizabeth Pohl, Mr. Fred Pohl, Mrs. Ezra Betz, Mr. Gabriel Pohl, Mr. Henry Pohl, Mr. K. W. Pohl, numerous other relatives and many friends.

The funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at St. John's Lutheran church, her pastor, the Rev. A. W. Engelbrecht, being in charge. There was a large concourse of friends who were present to pay their last sad tribute of respect to the departed. Interment was in the Lutheran cemetery. - Contributed by Pat Esterday
