Artemas Day while a resident of Morris County, New Jersey, was commissioned Captain in 1776 and served as such in the militia of Morris County, New Jersey, at various times until 1783, accounting in all to 15 months and 7 days; he was in the battles of Long Island, Trenton; both battles of Springfield, and the battles of Connecticut Farms, Polifly and Aquackanonck.

He married January 21 or 22, 1767, at Morristown, New Jersey, Bethany Axtell who was born January 8, 1749.

He died April 18, 1802, in Mendham Twp, Morris County, New Jersey.

His widow, Bethany, was allowed pension on her application executed August 26, 1837, at which time she was living in Morris Twp, Washington County, Pennsylvania. She died in Morris Twp, Pennsylvania, February 4 or 28, 1839.
