Nicholas Long
Nicholas Long, son of Charles and Elizabeth Long, was born January 30, 1885 near Clara, Kan., and died March 28, 1953 after receiving fatal burns while tending a grass fire near his home near Clifton, Kan., at the age of 68 years, one month and 29 days.
He was educated in the Clara school, grew to manhood in that community and later became a farmer.
On January 31, 1911 he was united in marriage to Magdalena Esslinger and to this union eight children were born, four sons and four daughters.
In 1928 they moved to Clifton.
He was a kind and loving father and husband, and he will be greatly missed in his home by his family and in his community by his many friends.
His parents, two sisters and two sons preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, six children, Mrs. Joseph Kantack, Boise, Idaho: Mrs. Margaret Finkbiner, Clifton; Mrs. Laura Charest, Topeka; Mrs. Elaine Rundus, Belleville; Leonard of Clifton and Francis of the home; two brothers, John of Linn and Charles of Clifton; one sister, Mrs. Maggie Knottgen of Clifton and 15 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held March 31, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clifton with a Requiem Mass. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
