MR. Durham graduated from Friars Point High School, Mississippi Delta Junior College and Delta State University. Mississippi Delta Junior College in 1999 inducted MR. Durham in the Sports Hall of Fame for football, basketball and baseball. Delta State also inducted him in the Sports Hall of Fame. He was considered the best quarterback in the post WWII era. He was past M President. He held the Mid-South Golden Gloves Middleweight Boxing Champion 1949-1950 and was Division II All American Quarterback. After he graduated from College, he taught and coached at Benoit High School. After teaching, he worked for Gotcher Brothers before starting his own business. He was on the Lula Rich Foundation, Board of Trustees at Lee Academy and school board member of Clarksdale Baptist School. He was one of the founders and past President of Bland Bayou Hunting Club. Sugar enjoyed being around people and his family. When he was not working Sugar could be found in the woods at his hunting cabin or on Moon Lake. He was a member of the American Legion. Sugar was a loving husband, Dad and granddad. He gave of his time and gifts freely to others. He was a member of Clarksdale Baptist Church where served on the fiance committee and member of DR. Glenn Gates Sunday School .
Survivors include: his wife of 50 years Virnell Brooks Durham, daughter Deborah Luster (Tim) and son Bill Durham all of Clarksdale, MS.; 2 grandchildren Elizabeth Sherman (Chuck) and Sparky Luster (Jenny Kate) both of Oxford, MS.; 4 great-grandchildren Graham, Olivia Cate and Bramlett Sherman and McCay Luster.
Preceded in death by his parents Ira and Blanche Strickland Durham, 2 sisters Joyce Fili and Lela McKinnon and 2 brothers Ira Durham, JR and Earl Durham.
