When Daniel H. Hazard was born on May 1, 1842, in Bristol, Rhode Island, his father, James, was 40 and his mother, Maria, was 30. He married Mary Ann Curran on January 26, 1869, in Providence, Rhode Island. They had three children during their marriage. He died on October 29, 1893, in his hometown at the age of 51.

Daniel was a resident of Bristol when he enrolled in the 12th R.I. Inf. on Oct. 4, 1862. He was mustered in on Oct. 13, 1862 and mustered out July 29, 1863.
