The son of William Putnam Sheldon (1856-1939) and Hattie May Hammontree (1859-1899), Dallas Sheldon was born in a farmhouse in Monroe Twp, Coshocton Co. He was a lumberjack, local boxer, farmer, & township trustee during his life. He helped out his brothers & sisters in times of need, especially during the Depression, and helped out his dad in his old age. In 1908 he married Elsie F. Cooper. He fathered 7 children: Howard, Wilby, Floyd, Sidney, Donis, Monabelle, & Dolly (who died as an infant).
