Howard C. Lien Sept. 12, 1918 – June 1978

Funeral Services were held Wednesday, June 14 for a former Monticello resident, Howard C. Lien, 58, Rio Linda, Calif. Lien's body was found two weeks ago near Truckee, Calif., and was, identified over the weekend. He had been visiting his brother, Otis C. Lien, at Cheyenne Wells, Colo., and had left by bus for California. His remains were identified by fingerprints. California authorities are investigating his death.

Lien was the son of Selmer C. Lien, and a brother of Mrs. Thomas (Crystal) Brusveen and
Sylvia C. Rosen, all of Monticello. He was born in Freda. N.D. on Sept. 12, 1918, the son of Selmer C. and Christine Gilbertson Lien. He attended Freda Grade School and Blanchardville High School. He farmed with his parents before entering the Air Force in 1940. After being discharged from the service, he lived in California, except for five years in Monticello during the 1960s. He was a tile and marble setter.

Services were held in Highland Cemetery in Monticello. The Rev. Howard N. Ellis of the
Albany Lutheran Church officiated.

Survivors are his father; a son, Sgt. Chic E. Lien, Peterson AFB, Colo.; a daughter, Mrs. Kasey Klinehueh, Delano, Calif; one brother. Otis C. Lien, Cheyenne Wells, Colo.; three sisters, Mrs. Brusveen and Mrs. Rosen, Monticello; and Mrs. Ralph Einerson, Ft. Pierce, Fla. and two grandchildren. His mother died in 1957 and a brother, Kermit. in 1970.
