CLEAR SPRING - William Byron DeLawter, 64, of Clear Spring, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born May 8, 1933, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Otho Victor and Eva Catherine Schroyer DeLawter Sr.

He was employed by PIE Nationwide in Hagerstown for 15 years, retiring in 1991. He was previously employed by Cushwa Brick in Williamsport for 19 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Williamsport for 50 years.

He also was a member of Potomac Post 202 American Legion and Conococheague Tribe 84 IORed Men, both in Williamsport, and Retirees Club of Local Teamsters Union Chapter 992 in Hagerstown.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Ann Lingle DeLawter; one daughter, Michaell Roxane DeLawter of Cumberland, Md.; two stepdaughters, Tracey Lynn Keel of Lebanon, Pa., and Kathleen Kay Shartle of Fredericksburg, Pa.; three sisters, Marie Gaylor and Melcora McKinley, both of Williamsport, and Reba Spickler of Hagerstown; one brother, Claude DeLawter of Hagerstown; one grandson; and three stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Otho V. DeLawter Jr.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. W. Gregory Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport, with military honors conducted by Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion in Hagerstown.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. Tuesday for the convenience of family and friends.
