David immigrated to America, around age 18 in 1643 to Virginia with his father. He became a Colonel and owned a large plantation that eventually became Richmond, Virginia.

On August 7, 1667, he bought 86 acres in James City County(Book 6). He amassed many acres of land from grants that he received from Governor William Berkeley. David received five land grants in New Kent County, 1,300 acres; 375 acres; 1,300 acres; 277 acres and 196 acres.

Also, in 1667, he and his father, together received a land grant in James City County of 1,000 acres for bringing 20 people to Virginia to settle and develop land. He moved to New Kent County and built a large plantation there.

David served as a member of the House of Burgesses and took his Oath on April 2, 1692. He was a representive for New Kent County. While there, he introduced a piece of legislation that would require all County Clerks to maintain an office in their respective County Courthouse.

David, as an elderly man, was killed by Pamunkey Indians on Asequin Plantation, his home. Nothing is known about his wife, Jane (maiden name unknown).
