He was a sprightly young man and had many friends who are sad to think of Mayes Harwell as being dead and laid in the cold grave on Pisgah Hill. Mayes suffered much during his illness.
Funeral services were conducted at Pisgah by Rev. Mr. Gardner, where the body was laid to rest. It has been said that no boy had more friends than Mayes Harwell, near his home in Aspen Hill. He had been a cripple for years and everybody seemed to have sympathy for him.
