Opera Singer. A lyric tenor, he is remembered as a star of the Vienna stage for over half a century. Raised in central Austria, he received his music education at the Franz Schubert Academy and began his professional career at the Vienna Burgtheater around 1950; over the next decade he was to refine his craft at the State theatres of St. Polten, St. Gallen, and elsewhere, then joined the Vienna Volksoper in 1960. Over the next decades he sang the tenor leads in the works of Carl Millocker, Franz Lehar, Strauss, and others, though with time he moved into character parts. Among his more noted roles were Petrucio in "Kiss Me Kate", Professor Higgins of "My Fair Lady", Triquet from Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin", and Eisenstein of Johann Strauss II's "Die Fledermaus". Minich was named Vienna Kammersinger in 1974, allowing him to use the initials KS after his name, and never really retired, being seen as the Emperor Altoum in Puccini's "Turandot" as late as 2009. At his death from pneumonia he could be heard on a number of complete recordings of German operettas.
