Verneil G. Orvik, age 76, resident of Lakota, ND, formerly of Michigan, ND, died Friday, July 26, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota.

Verneil Genevieve Orvik was born April 30, 1937 in Melvin Township of Nelson County, ND, the daughter of Goodwin and Vilda (Masters) Orvik. She was raised on her parent's farm and attended the Melvin Township School and Michigan High School, graduating in May 1955. In 1967, the year after her father died, Verneil and her mother moved into a home in Michigan. After her mother broke her hip Verneil cared for her mother until her mother's death in 1973. At various times in her lifetime Verneil worked as a house painter, a janitor, and an in home day care provider. She especially enjoyed her time as a day care provider and the kids she cared for. Verneil also enjoyed visiting friends in person and by phone and taking drives down memory lane in Melvin Township. She moved to the Lakota Good Samaritan Center in August of 2008. Verneil was a member of Michigan Lutheran Church and a past member of Melrose Lutheran Church.

Verneil is survived by her sister, Louise Urness of Fargo, ND; 10 nieces and nephews, Marilyn (Larry) O'Callaghan of Fargo, Carole Ann (Ed) Stalheim of Fargo, Dan (Julie) Urness of Roseau, MN, Michael (Loa Jean) Orvik of Minot, Kent (Marla) Orvik of Bismarck, Gregg (Brenda) Orvik of Minot, Diane Messner of Moorcroft, WY, Connie (Charlie) Auker of Albuquerque, NM, Angie (Roger) Schlenk of Sherburne, MN, and David (Kristy) Reep of Fargo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Verna (her twin) and an infant sister; her brothers, Maynard, Robert, and an infant brother, also named Maynard.

Verneil's Funeral Service will be held at the Michigan Lutheran Church, Michigan, ND, on Monday, July 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Melrose Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Michigan. Visitation will be held at the Michigan Lutheran Church on the day of the Funeral Service from noon until the time of service.

Memorials are preferred to the Melrose Lutheran Church Cemetery.
