Torkel Jakobson Hadland was born on December 1, 1865, in Egersund, Norway. To Parents Jakob Jakobson Hadland & Guri Martine Olsdtr Svanæs. Torkel was baptized December 17, 1865, in the Eigersund Parish, Egersund Norway. His baptismal name was Torkild. Torkel at the age of 20 immigrated to the United States in 1885, establishing a home and job fishing on the Great Lakes in Bayfield, Wisconsin. Torkel returned to Egersund Norway to marry Sophie Marie Helgesdtr Lædre on March 10, 1891, in Egersund, Norway, Returning with his wife in August 1891 to Bayfield, Wisconsin, where they had 8 children. Torkel & Family left Bayfield, Wisconsin prior to 1908, To Seattle Washington, where they had a daughter in 1908. Torkel and family settled in Petersburg, Alaska, they had two more children. Torkel continued working in the fishing industry. Torkel and his two minor children left Alaska after his wife's death in 1926. Torkel relocated to Bow, Skagit County, Washington, where he remarried, Lovisa Marie Svendsdtr Omdal September 15, 1928 and lived until his death January 4, 1948 at the age of 82. Torkel is buried with his first wife Sophie at Evergreen.
