Samuel G. was the 7th of 9 children of Joshua & Bridget Hopkins. He had siblings John, Willard, Ruth, Julia, Sara, Joshua, Charles, and Mary Amanda.
Sam was 30 when he married Sarah, she was 20, on Jan. 11, 1857. They had three children listed above. They had nine known grandchildren.
According to the census reports Sam was a farmer all his life. They were married 52 years when Sarah died on April 21, 1909 at age 72. Sam died 14 months later on June 15, 1910 at age 84.

SAMUEL G. HOPKINS, a retired farmer, passed away at home on June 15, 1910 at 10:00 am from a cerebral hemorrhage at age 84 yrs, 8 mos, 22 days. Interment at Greenlawn Cemetery in Greenwich, June 17, 1910
Informant was daughter-in-law Mrs. Robert Hopkins (Mary Agnes) of Greenwich. She listed Samuel was born in New Jersey on Sept. 22, 1826. She incorrectly said his father was Giles Hopkins; mother unknown.
