Curtis was the son of Lydia Francis Weaver Brady and Edwin Washington Brady.

Curtis married Lillian Boaz on April 10, 1901. Curtis and Lillian did not have any children.

Curtis went to work at McClure's Magazine initially as an office boy in November of 1896 and later worked for S.S. McClure serving as the advertising manager for McClure's Magazine. Curtis assumed this position after his brother Albert Brady Sr died in Rome while on a business trip in late 1900. Curtis Brady's career with McClure's Magazine is depicted in the book "Success Story, The Life and Times of S.S. McClure" by Peter Lyon. Curtis colaborated with Peter Lyon who was a grandson of S.S. McClure on the writing of this book to a small degree.

Curtis and his wife were long term residences of New York City living at 170 East 78th Street. In later retirement after the death of his wife, Curtis lived at the Hotel Saint Paul in Los Angeles at 1021 West 6th Street.

Curtis received the first permit issued by the State of New York to operate a motor vehicle in Cental Park on November 27, 1889.

Curtis had the following brothers and sisters: Oscar W., Albert B., Carrie E., Edwin B., Ella Francis.
