Memorial services for Doris M. Ward, 89, will be at 3 p.m. May 16 at Homestead United Methodist Church in Rochester.

She died Thursday (May 7, 2009) at Moores Elderly Care in Rochester after a 10-month illness.

Born March 12, 1920, in Dodge County to Louis and Marion Rehling, she was one of 13 children. As a child she was raised in an area known as Pumpkin Hollow. On Aug. 31, 1946, she married Howard Ward in Iowa. The couple resided in Rochester their entire marriage.

Mrs. Ward worked for the Olmsted County Health Department, retiring in 1990. She was also a member and past president of the Oronoco VFW Auxiliary, and was a member of the Olmsted Community Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by a daughter, Sally (Ron) Neva of Pengilly, Minn.; two sons, Howard (friend, Kathy) and Gary (Mary), both of Rochester; 17 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Donna French and Maria Ferguson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sons, an infant son, a grandson, six brothers and six sisters.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. at the church.

Mrs. Ward donated her body to the Mayo Foundation.
