Martin was the 2nd son born to Martinus Weindorf and Elisabeth Lehn. He was born in Black rock, NY where his family settled for a few years after coming to the USA. He and his family moved to Erie,PA in 1848, joining Martin's cousin already settled in Eri.

He married Julia Spaulding, and they had 9 children. They both lived almost their entire life in Erie, with the exception of Martin's first 2 years, when they were in New York.

Martin and Julia's first 2 chldren, Daughters (Nellie 1870 & Kate 1871), both died as infants, and are buried in James M Glover's plot in the Erie cemetery ( James being married to Frances, Martin's sister).
