Mr. Ward was born in Hendersonville, N.C. on Oct. 22, 1921, a son of the late Arthur Ward Sr. and Nora Summey Ward. He was a member of the Union Church of Christ. Mr. Ward was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II.
He was a life-member of the VFW and a life-member and volunteer driver with the DAV. Mr. Ward was a retired service technician with Freeman Gas Co. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Nora Mae Sandlin of Texas; a son, Bobby Ward of Union; two step-sons, Jacob Critchlow of Buffalo and David Critchlow of the home; three sisters, Lib Brown of Waterloo, Laura Grady of Clinton and Faye Henderson of Columbia; a brother, John (Pie) Ward of Union; three grandchildren, Ward Sandlin, Donald Sandlin and Robert Ward; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by Brother Jesse Ham and Brother Ronnie Tripp. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dorn Vanc Volunteer Services, 6439 Garners Ferry Rd., Columbia, SC 29201-1639.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7-9. The family is at the home, 203 Barron St., Union. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
