Cornelius Van Leeuwen, 85, of Orange City died Wednesday, January 14, at Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.

Services were at 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev Timothy Ouwinga officiating. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City.

Van Leeuwen was born April 10, 1918, at Orange City, the son of Hendrik and Gertruida (Veldhuizen) Van Leeuwen. He was raised at Orange City, where he attended the Christian School.

On February 19, 1946, he married Catherine Vander Ziel in Sioux City. They made their home in Orange City. She died April 11,1959, in Orange City.

On March 15, 1960, he married Dena Boeyink in Sioux Center. She died November 14, 1998, in Rock Valley.

Except for a short time in Sioux Center and a brief period in Rock Valley, he made his home in Orange City.

Since January of 2003, he has been a resident of the Heritage House.

In earlier years, he worked with his father and at the Farmers Elevator. For many years, he was a freight hauler for Pals Transfer, which later became AU-American Transfer.

In semi-retirement, he cared for the tulip gardens in the city parks, all in Orange City.

He was a lifetime member of First Christian Reformed Church. He enjoyed visiting with everyone.

Survivors include his two sisters, Hermina Groen of Hartley and Anne Van Rennes of Ogilvie, Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Ruth Van Leeuwen of Bellflower, California; and nephews and nieces.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Woodrow Van Leeuwen.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
