Fairmont, Minn. – graveside services for Byrl [Romain] Cummins, 75, of Fairmont, Minn. will be at 2 p.m., Thurday, Oct. 9, at the Armstrong Grove Cemetery in Armstrong with Rev. Lyndon West from Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont and Mr. Leroy Diekmann officiating. There will be full military honors by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post #36 of Fairmont and the Martin County V.F.W. Post #1222.
He died Saturday, Oct 4 at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital at Sioux Falls, S. Dak.
He was born May 20, 1922 at Armstrong to Rufus and Cornelia (Palmer) Cummins. He received his education in Dolliver School. In 1942, he entered the United States Army serving in the Signal Corp.
In 1944, he was united in marriage to Florence Osberg. He continued to serve in the U.S. army until he was wounded in action and was honorable discharged in 1946.
He then worked for various farmers in the Fairmont area and was employed by Lampert Building Center in Fairmont and Art’s Way Mfg. in Armstrong.
He was a member of the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post #36 and the Martin County V.F.W. #1222. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Cummins of Fairmont; daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Linda) Adams of Elmore, Minn.; son, Terri Cummins of Ceylon, Minn.; brother, Eldon Cummins of Ringsted; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Judy; two sisters; three brothers and one grandson. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 6, 1997)
