At the age of 28 he formed a partnership with Charles E. Shultze and they had a meat market on Main Street. After three years he sold his interest and started his own market on Church St. with George Bergen. He married Katie Rhynehart on 14 May 1880. He held the position of town clerk for two terms. "CANAJOHARIE---Funeral services for Henry W. Klinkhart, 82, of 24 Mill street, who died Thursday at Amsterdam City hospital, where he had been a patient since Sunday, will be Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Lenz funeral home, Otsego street. Rev. Herman Vesper, pastor of St. John's Lutheran church, of which Mr. Klinkhart was a member, will officiate. Burial will be in Prospect Hill cemetery. Mr. Klinkhart was a brother of John Klinkhart of Maple Hill, only surviving Civil war veteran in Montgomery county, who observed his 99th birthday Monday. Born at St. Johnsville, a son of Amos and Frederica Lehlin Klinkhart, he had lived in Canajoharie since his parents came to this village when he was a boy. He was a member of Canajoharie lodge, I.O.O.F., and was a member of the old Eagle Hose company. He retired 14 years ago from the Beech Nut Co., where he was an employe about 15 years. Besides his brother he leaves his wife, Mrs. Catherine Rhynehart Klinkhart; two daughters, Mrs. Chester Kilmartin and Mrs. Samuel Crandall of this village; a sister, Mrs. Carolyn Countryman of Rochelle, Ill.; a granddaughter, Mrs. Alden Matt of Canajoharie, and several nieces and nephews."
