Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 13 at St. Peter’s Lutheran church in Pocahontas for A.J. Phillips, 76, lifetime Pocahontas area resident with burial at Summit Hill Cemetery. Mr. Phillips died at Pocahontas Community Hospital where he had been a patient for several weeks. Pallbearers were Duane Rude, Harry Levene, Ray Garrels, Merlin Storck, Maurice Fitzgerald and Dennis Kleen.

A.J. Phillips was born May 10, 1900, on a farm near Pocahontas. He graduated from Pocahontas high school in 1917 and married the former Anna Pascal in August, 1920. They farmed at his birthplace until his death.

Survivors of Mr. Phillips are his wife, Anna; daughters, Mrs. Byron (Margaret) Rude of Havelock, Mrs. Ron (Grace) Hoag of Humboldt, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Miller of Versailles, Ky., and Mrs. Robert (Imogene) Schoon of Pocahontas, sons, Claude of Pierson, Ia., and Walter of Pocahontas; 16 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and sister, Mrs. Jack Hamaker of Mesa Ariz.
