Mrs. Doris M. Andrus Elitharp, 65, wife of Howard B. Elitharp and a former resident of Watertown, died unexpectedly, apparently of a heart attack, about 1 this morning at her home in Liverpool.

The funeral will be Saturday morning at 10 at the Maurer funeral home in Liverpool, after which the body will be brought to Watertown for burial about 11:30 a.m. in Brookside cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Surviving her, besides her husband, a former Watertown shoe merchant, are three children, Dr. Norman C. Elitharp, a Liverpool physician, Richard M. Elitharp, Clinton, la., and Donald H. Elitharp, Islip, L.I.; a brother, Donald C. Andrus, Catalina Island, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. George A. (Edna J.) Yandeau, Lowville, and a number of grandchildren.

Mrs. Elitharp, who had not been in good health and had been under a physician's care for a heart condition, had complained of illness when her husband, a night watchman, left for work Tuesday night.

She called her son, Dr. Elitharp, about 12:50 this morning, but she died before he arrived. The doctor found his mother lying on the kitchen floor.

She was born at West Carthage Nov. 9, 1902, a daughter of Cortez C. and Belle S. Austin Andrus. A son of David and Roxy Hitchcock Andrus, her father was a native of the town of Champion and a great-grandson of Ezekiel Andrus, who settled in the town of Rutland in the spring of 1800.

She came to Watertown with her parents about 1910 and the family once lived on North Indiana avenue. She was graduated from the Watertown High school in 1921 and thereafter was employed for years in the shoe store of her father-in-law, the late Edson P. Elitharp. She served as office secretary and also as a hosiery sales clerk in the store.

She was married to Howard B. Elitharp of this city on Sept. 5, 1922, at the parsonage of the First Presbyterian church of Gouverneur by Rev. W. F. Skinner, then the pastor.

Mrs. Elitharp continued to work in the Elitharp shoe store until 1924.

In later years she was employed at the Agricultural Insurance company office, the office of Attorney Henry H. Wilmott and at the Northern New York Trust company.

Mr. and Mrs. Elitharp resided for a few years in the old Slater home at East Hounsfield before moving to Liverpool in 1959. Mr. Elitharp left the shoe business at that time.

For a few years Mrs. Elitharp was employed in the office of the General Electric company at its North Syracuse plant.

Active in athletics, Mr. and Mrs. Elitharp once held the mixed doubles tennis championship of Watertown. For years Mrs. Elitharp was also active as a league bowler, both here and at Liverpool.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian church of Liverpool and its Berith circle and also of the senior citizens' association of that village.

Mrs. Elitharp's father died in North Hollywood, Calif., Sept. 26, 1939, at the age of 77. Her mother died in Burbank, Calif., June 9, 1952, at the age of 82.
