WAKARUSA - Phyllis E. Leming, 81, of 300 N. Washington Street, died at 10:20 a.m. Monday (Sept. 5, 2005) at St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend.
She was born October 25, 1923, in Jones, Michigan, to Vernon J. Stump and Laura Hanshew. She was raised by Harley and Marie Geyer.
On January 4, 1946, in South Bend, she married Paul E. Leming. He died June 27, 1992.
Surviving are three daughters, Sandra (Roger) Nielson of Middlebury, Kelly Healey of South Bend and LuAnn (David) Holmes of Havana, Florida; a son, Todd H. Leming of Goshen; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lela Kveder of Casa Grande, Arizona, Wava Sindler of Winder, Georgia, and Julia Gurerra of Laredo, Texas; and a brother, John (Dorothy) Stump of Lake Wales, Florida.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, a sister, a grandson, and a loving friend, Clarence Lloyd.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 201 S. Main Street, Middlebury, and one hour before the 10 a.m. Thursday service at St. Mark's Methodist Church, Goshen. The Rev. Tim Terrell will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
A long-time area resident, Mrs. Leming graduated from Nappanee High School in 1941. She worked for several years at Goshen Rubber and Goshen Cushion. She was a member of St. Mark's Methodist Church for 50 years. She was a former Campfire leader and volunteered for many years on the Elkhart County Election Board. She was a member of the American Legion and Veteran of Foreign Wars auxiliaries in Goshen. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed playing cards.
