HENRY² NICHOLAS paternal lineage (John¹)

Henry Nicholas was the fourth of eight children (Mary Ann, William, John, Henry, Charles William, Thomas, James, and George) born to John¹ Nicholas and Rachel Collins of Dale, Penbrokeshire Wales.

Henry was born in the parish of DealPoint (Dale Point) near Dale, Penbrokeshire, Wales.

On May 7, 1855 in Brecon-Glamorgan counties at Zion Chapel, Twyn-yr-odyn or what is known as Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, Henry Nicholas married Mary Ann BEVAN b. Nov. 4, 1831 Defynock, Brecon, Wales and d. Jan. 12, 1904 David, Mitchell Co, IA , daughter of Mary Ann Price (1793-1879) and Daniel Bevan.

Henry was a ironstone miner in Wales and when their was an accident in the mine, Mary urged her husband to go to the United States. In 1870 the family emigrated to where his older brother, John Nicholas, was farming in Lake County, IL. Henry's mother-in-law ( named Mary Ann (Price) Bevan, choose to come along as she was very close to her daughter. It appears there were other of Mary's siblings that did not come to the US and were naturally upset when their mother left. I have yet to find all of the siblings. Four Nicholas brothers and their families (John, Henry, Thomas and George) came to America.

Henry and Mary's children were born in South Wales all except the youngest, Elizabeth (Bessie), who was born in Lake County, IL.

The Henry Nicholas family first lived in Lake County, IL in 1869, where Henry's brother, John Nicholas (Findagrave #52323748), was farming. Then they moved to Mitchell County, Iowa in 1878 where Henry was a farmer and where he died. They attended the David, Iowa Baptist church.
