The Holden Progress Attended Funeral of Soldier Killed on Guam Mr. and Mrs. Fred Caldwell, Merl Paul, Mrs. Alma Norman, Mrs. Lee Pauley and Mrs. Leonard Irle of Holden and Mr. & Mrs. G.T. Roach of Centerview went to Baxter Springs, Kans., Sunday to attend the funeral of T. Sgt. Jack H. Hill, 26 years old who was killed in a motor vehicle accident on Guam on June 21 (1949). The services were held at the Presbyterian Church and joint military and Masonic rites were conducted at the graveside. Sgt. Hill was the son of Fred and Ode (Paul) Hill was born in Baxter Springs August 4, 1922 and had lived there all his life. His father died twelve years ago and was buried at Holden. Sgt. Hill served in World War II and re-enlisted after being out of the service for a time. His total army service was about six years. Besides his mother he leaves a sister, Mrs. Pauline Kenney and a nephew, George Lovell Kenney of the home. His mother, sister and her son had spent the past six weeks at the Caldwell home. Mrs. Caldwell and Mrs. Hill are sisters. TECH SGT 19 AF COMMANDING SQ WWII
