Thomas Bouchard (113668682)

Suggested edit: On December 7, 1967, 19 year old PFC Thomas Bouchard was a rifleman serving as a cook at Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division. When he heard his former infantry company was under attack, he dropped the ladle, grabbed a rifle, and boarded a chopper heading toward the battle. As he arrived, he saw an Armored Personnel Carrier get hit, and it's entire crew wounded. Bouchard sprinted through enemy fire to the vehicle. He picked up other casualties around the vehicle and loaded them inside, then jumped in the driver's seat. An enemy machine gun bunker kept Bouchard under fire as he worked around the APC. As he drove the vehicle and casualties to safety, Bouchard rolled the APC right over top of the bunker, destroying the gun and killing the enemy inside.

Once out of harm's way, Bouchard joined in another assault to drive off the enemy. He braved intense fire multiple times, charging enemy positions. One one occasion, he ran right into a bunker face to face with three Vietnamese and killed them at point-blank range. By the time he was finished, 20 dead enemy lay in his wake, helping the Americans achieve an overwhelming victory. For his incredible heroism and courage, Bouchard was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Bouchard returned to Vietnam for a second tour. He would also earn a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, Air Medal, and a Purple Heart. He passed away in February 2000 at age 52.
