ALTON, Elgin - At his home in Palmerston, on Monday, March 29, 2004, in his 79th year. Beloved husband of Jean (Clarke) Alton and father of Liz Ruegg and her husband Glenn of Harriston, Virginia Nelemans and her husband Jim of Wingham, John Alton of Calgary, Cindy Grose and her husband Jeff of Alma and Danny Alton of Palmerston.

Grandfather of Sharon and Jody Herbus, Lynda Ruegg and Nick Baillargeon, Patrick and Tina Nelemans, Patricia Nelemans, Jamie Nelemans, Justin Nelemans, Christopher Nelemans, Gelina Alton, Dane Alton, Brittney Alton, Courtney Grose, Alex Grose, Trent Grose, Bradley Alton, Dillon Alton, Thomas Alton and Wesley Alton and great-grandfather of Noah Baillargeon, Catelyn Nelemans. Casey Nelemans, McKenzie Alton, Spencer Alton, Hailey Nelemans and Amber Nelemans.

Predeceased by his son, Michael Alton; his granddaughter, Amy Ruegg; his brothers, Leonard Alton and Wilmer Alton and by his sister, Ruby Rulton.

Friends may call at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston this evening (Tuesday) from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, April 1 at 11 a.m.

A Masonic Lodge memorial service will be held this evening (Tuesday) at 9 p.m. Interment in Harriston cemetery. Memorial donations to the Palmerston and District Hospital would be appreciated.

Elgin,was the fourth child and third son of Wesley and Mae Alton,his parents.The Family lived in Harriston,Ontario and Elgin worked for the C.P.R as a signal maintainer.

I would meet him several times during the year as he made trips to Owen Sound and he shared supper with our Family.He told stories of his Family and many fun things that happened when he and his brother Wilmer would get together as Families. Uncle Elgin as real nice man.

Elgin's favorite saying was;"you all are welcome as the flowers in May".
