Wilmer, the third child and second son of Wesley and Mae Alton, lived and worked in London,Ontario at first, then to Winnipeg and was an water treatment engineer. Wilmer was married twice. His family was to the first marriage.
Married – in March of 1945 to Margaret Ellen Edwards.
They had 5 children: Dennis,Leonard,William,Mary Etta and Robert Charles
In his early life,Wilmer was working for the CPR as a signalling technician. Elgin, his younger brother was working there in the same department.During this time he was a member of the Orange Hall in London and his father Wesley Alton was a senior member of the Lodge.
Wilmer had a restless spirit and was unable to continue to provide for his Family and left to go out West and find himself. His brother Elgin tried help out Wilmer in his struggle. Wilmer tried but in the end the weight of his burden was too much and he gave up and moved away to the West.
He was able to re-ground himself to a stable Family life and his new spouse,whom was a firm women, that was able to keep Wilmer on the straight and narrow. He lived out the rest of his life there, with the occasional visit East to visit his kin and children and grandchildren. Numerous health complications hampered his life in his golden years.
