Sarah Ruth Young passed away at her cherished "River House" on Sunday, July 7, 2013.

She bravely and valiantly fought cancer with grace and dignity.

She was born in Vernal, Utah on January 30, 1947, to Uel and Ruth Hunting.

She grew up with 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

She deeply valued the friendships she had with her siblings, their spouses, and her nieces and nephews.

Sarah married Max Little Young Jr. on Sept. 13, 1967, in the Logan Temple.

She felt blessed to gain another mom and dad, 5 sisters, 2 brothers, and their spouses, whom she loved as her own.

Sarah and Max shared more than 45 wonderful years together.

Sarah said of Max, "He is my mentor, my rock, my love, and he always calls me his ‘Pretty Sarah.'"

Sarah was the loving mother of five sons and two daughters: Slade (Susanne) Young, Kristy (Doug) Watkins, Travas (Ruth) Young, Karen Young, Aaron (Stefni Jo) Young, Clinton (Kara) Young, and Ferron (Kristin) Young. Her life was enriched by twenty-one grandchildren: Sandra, Skyler, Sharem, Seth, Spencer, Sadie and Sarah Young; Katie (Jacob) Ufford, Levi, Ethan, Terra, Erin, Dora, Amelia, and Pierson Watkins; Rachel, Katrina, Jashub, David, and Elly Young; Xylee Young; and two great grandchildren: Alex, and Ellamarie Ufford.

She was the ultimate "Super Mom!" She raised her children while finishing her teaching and special education degrees. She was continually educating herself, and felt that education was a life-long endeavor. She attended and taught countless workshops and conferences.

It took someone truly amazing to work all day, fulfill her callings, and care for 7 children.

Each child knew they were her "favorite".

Her and Max's philosophy of "teaching children how to make appropriate choices, realizing there are consequences for each choice they make" not only applied to raising their children, but to her teaching, as well.

She worked for the Uintah School District as a Special Education Teacher for 25 years. The love Sarah had for her students was tremendous. Her students taught each of us the true meaning of life and how to be the best you can be, in spite of challenges. Sarah treasured the unconditional love her students shared with the people around them. Many of her students expressed their love by calling her "Aunt Sarah", just as if they were family…because to her, they were.

Sarah was the recipient of several teaching awards, including: ARC Teacher of the Year for the State of Utah, State of Utah Teacher of the Year for Working with Students with Significant Disabilities, and Uintah High School Teacher of the Year.

She also founded the Super Heroes' Club at Uintah High School. This club has helped to provide extracurricular activities and friendships for students with disabilities and their peers.

Many students have benefited from her example and dedication.

Sarah's life was blessed through service to others. She had a special love for her family, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Scouting, and Special Olympics.

Of the 45 years Max and Sarah were married, 42 were spent serving in the LDS Primary. Her genuine love for the Savior, and the Gospel, strengthened the testimonies of her family and the many sweet children she taught.

Sarah also served in the Scouting program for over 30 years. She made Scouting fun and meaningful for scouts of all ages. She received the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver. She was recognized this year at the Utah National Parks Council "Influential Women in Scouting" event.

Special Olympics was a true joy for Sarah. When talking about her Special Olympians she said, "They are my heart; they are my life."

Max and Sarah have cherished working with Olympians for 38 years. They were co-area directors from 1990-2004 for the Special Olympics Utah North East Area. Sarah served as the Field Service Coordinator from 2005-2013. She was honored as Coach of The Year, received the Award of Excellence for Utah Special Olympics, and was inducted into the Utah Special Olympics Hall of Fame. She sincerely appreciated the community's support for our local athletes. She was very inspired by, and lived through example, the Special Olympics Oath: "Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt. "

Sarah had the amazing quality of making everyone feel valued and loved. She saw the best in people, while helping them to be their best. One of her special gifts was that she could clearly see you as God sees you: who you are, with all the potential of who you can become. Through her belief, she helped you to obtain the greatness she saw in you. Her positive attitude and ability to see the "everyday miracles" in life, inspired everyone around her.

Sarah's family meant EVERYTHING to her! They were her pride & joy. There was no doubt that what she enjoyed the very most was to be surrounded by family…

All that is good and great in our lives we owe to her.

Thanks Momma Sarah, Aunt Sarah, Grandma Sarah,

Our Friend,

Our Hero!
