Mrs. Sita Halperin, 84, a resident of Belmont Village Assisted Living Facility in Nashville, TN, passed away peacefully at her residence Saturday, July 6, 2013 after a lengthy illness. She was a long-time resident of Oak Ridge, TN and a former resident of Gainesville, FL.

Mrs. Halperin was born June 10, 1929 in Durham, NC. As a girl, she traveled to France, Spain, and South America with her parents, the late Prof. Earl Jefferson Hamilton and Mrs. Gladys Dallas Hamilton. She learned Spanish before learning English. She was also fluent in French and German. She received her B.A. degree in Biology from Oberlin College where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. She married Joseph Halperin on April 13, 1951 in Chicago, IL, and they moved to Oak Ridge, TN, where he worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory until his retirement in 1989. She worked as a substitute school teacher and was a volunteer instructor for many years for the American Red Cross. She particularly enjoyed gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

She is survived by one son, Daniel Lee Halperin and his wife, Mrs. Beverly Gray Halperin of Fort Collins, CO; three daughters, Dr. Susan Bryant and her husband, Dr. J. David Bryant of Nashville, TN; Dr. Linda R. Halperin and her husband, Ron Manley of Brentwood, TN; and Dr. Rebecca L. Halperin of Oak Ridge, TN; nine grandchildren, Daniel Bryant and his wife Mrs. Marisa Koraus Bryant of New York, NY, Andrew Bryant of Nashville, TN, Matthew Manley of Brentwood, TN, Joy Halperin of Atlanta, GA, Laura Manley of Houston, TX, Jeremy Halperin of Denver, CO, Melissa Manley of Ann Arbor, MI, Sonya DiAngelo and Amelia DiAngelo, both of Oak Ridge, TN. Her first great-grandchild is due in October.

Dignity Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN is handling arrangements for cremation. A private memorial service will be held at a later date in Oak Ridge, TN.

Her family would like to thank the staff of Belmont Village and Gentiva Hospice for their caring support.
