WILLIAM H. ALTER

William H. Alter, 74, Bedford, native of Shelby County, died at 10:45 a.m. Saturday in Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.


He was born Jan. 24, 1922 in Shelby County, the son of Dr. Wayne and Hazel (Brown) Alter. On June 20, 1948 he married Betty (McWilliams) Alter, who survives.


Mr. Alter was a sales representative for Proctor & Gamble and a World War II veteran. He earned a bachelor's degree from Indiana University and was a member of Kappa Delta Rho fraternity.


He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Elks Club, Hoosier Hills R.C. Flying Club, Otis Park Golf Club, and the Masonic Lodge, all at Bedford.


In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Randy (Emily) Roberts, Bloomington; three sons, Gary Alter, Indianapolis, Brian Alter, Bloomington, and Greg Alter, Speedway; a brother, Robert Alter, Indianapolis; a sister, Mary Martin, Indianapolis; and four grandchildren.


Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the First United Methodist Church, Bedford. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Bedford. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today in Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, Bedford.


Note: William was a 1940 graduate of St. Paul H.S.
