Jesse was born in Claremont Canada located near present day Toronto. His parents were Joseph Wixson and Deborah Townsend. The Wixsons were some of the original settlers in Claremont. Jesse and his family later moved to the state of New York (1835) and later to Sanilac County Michigan. Jesse was a farmer and a Baptist Preacher. He married Rebecca Sorter prior to moving from Canada. Jesse and Rebecca had 13 children. At least five of his sons fought for the Union during the Civil War.
