Services Held For Mrs. Jennie Shoup

Funeral services for Mrs. Jennie May Shoup, who passed away Thursday, October 8 at St. Joseph hospital, Wichita, were held Saturday afternoon, Oct. 10 at two o'clock in the Mulvane Methodist church. Rev. D.N. McAllister, pastor, officiated.

Miss Barbara Shoup was organist and accompanied Charles Copeland who san "In The Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Pallbearers were Ira Cramer, ern Huff, Otis Schaper, Bill Humbolt, Arthur Owen and Ral Davis. Interment was in Mulvane cemetery. Mulvane Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Jennie May Taylor, elder daughter of Frank and Lillie May Taylor, was born March 7, 1886, in Des Moines, Iowa, and passed away from this life to her eternal rest October 8, 1953, in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 67 years, 7 months and two days.

Her father died when she was small and with her mother and younger sister she came to Mulvane in 1890. She was reared and educated here and taught in the Sumner County schools. On April 19, 1908, she was married to Eugene Burr Kessinger, and to them were born two children, Eugene W. Kessinger of Wichita and Mrs. Thelma Summers of Mulvane. The family lived on farms near Mulvane until they moved to a farm near Waco in 1923. Following the death of her husband she moved to Wichita in 1935.

In 1939 she was married to Charles Shoup and lived on a farm near Udall until after his death in 1945. A year later she moved to Mulvane where she established and operated "Jennie's Gift Shop".

Those remaining to mourn her passing, besides the two children, include five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, four step-daughters and five step-sons, one sister, Mrs. George Smysor, and three brothers, Cliff, Harry and Cecil Howard.
