Charles F. Shoup Died Sunday

Charles Francis Shoup, 69, resident of the Udall community for the past 62 years died in a Winfield hospital Sunday.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Udall Methodist church. Rev. George W. Watts officiated. A male quartette, Tracy Hildebrand, Glen June, Ora Clodfelter, C.W. Newman, sang, "In the Garden", "No Shadows There", and Ivory Palaces". Mrs. D.P. Simon was the pianist, Mrs. Ern Sawin and Mrs. Geo. Buss were flower girls. Pallbearers were: Jess Shaffer, Gus Buchholz, Ray Kuhn, Howard June, Orson Smith, Tom Preston. Burial was in the Mulvane Cemetery.

Charles Francis Shoup, son of Solomon and Magdalena Shoup, was born near Geneseo, Illinois, April 26, 1876 and passed away at a Winfield hospital April 29, 1945 at the age of 69 years and three days.

At the age of seven years, he came to Kansas with his parents, who settled on a farm home three miles west of Udall, near the present home.

He was married to Cora Wright, November 7, 1900. To this union eleven children were born, twin daughters having died in infancy. The family moved to the present home in 1905, having lived there the past forty years.

He was a member of the Modern Woodman Lodge. He was united with the Methodist church as a young man and was a faithful member through out his life.

His wife, Cora, preceded him in death, February 9, 1936.

April 19, 1939, he was married to Jennie Kessinger of Wichita, Kansas.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Jennie, and five sons, Eugene N. of Mulvane, Emery E. of Larned, Kans., Lloyd R. and Oliver W. of Udall, Francis B. of Medicine Lodge; four daughters, Mrs. Iva Morton of Udall, Mrs. Amy Engel of Peck, Mrs. Pearl Brandon of Wichita, Mrs. Christine Hollingsorth of Fort Scott; and twenty-four grandchildren. Also one step-son, Pfc. Eugene Kessinger in the armed service, overseas; one step-daughter, Mrs. Thelma Summers of Mulvane; and two sisters, Mrs. Effie Harness of Dexter, Kans. and Mrs. Sara Glaser of Mulvane; a host of other relatives, friends and neighbors.
