Rites For Mrs. Allen Held Sunday
Services for Mrs. Jean Oliver Allen, who died at the South Sunflower County Hospital early Saturday morning after a long illness were held Sunday afternoon at the first Methodist Church at 3 p. m. The Rev. E. Allen Bailey officiated and burial followed in the Indianola cemetery with Coleman Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Allen was born in Pickens, Mississippi but had lived most of her life in Indianola. She was the widow of the late Dr. Lemuel Sledge Allen. She taught in the Greenville City School and later taught in the Indianola City Schools. She had also served on the Board of Trustees for the school. Mrs. Allen was associated with the Columbus and Greenville Company. Until her illness she was active in Civic and Club affairs and was a charter member of the Indianola Twentieth Century Club. She leaves one-son, Lemuel Sledge Allen, Jr. of Indianola, two daughters Miss Katherine Allen, San Francisco, California and Mrs. Robert Jean Allen Young of Oxford, Mississippi, and four grand children. Active Pallbearers: Howard Davis, Vernon Beard, Steiner Helton, Pete Copeland, Hubert Middleton, Jr.. Garrard I Smith, Jackson, Miss.; Robert Clark, Greenville, George A. Everett, Greenwood.
