He was the son of Walter and Mildred (Dinsmore)Gardner.William was a graduate of Washington Academy,class of 1950.Following graduation he served his country in the U.S.Air Force.He then retured home and worked at the Western Auto in Machias,Maine,And then at the Cutler Naval Base in the maintenance department until his retirement.He was a member of the Whiting Fire Department.He enjoyed being outdoors camping and attending auto-racing events.He especially enjoyed the times spent playing with his grandchildren.He is survived by his wife;June(Burke)Gardner;three children;Janine of Ellsworth,Alan and special friend Lois Decatur of Machiasport,and Jody of Bangor,three grandchildren;Jennifer,Henry and Jordan,two great-grandchildren;Mikayla and Austin,a sister;Barbara Myers and husband Edward of Milford,seven brothers-inlaw and spouses,serveral nieces,nephews and cousins,and many special friends.He was predeceased by his parents.Graveside memorial services will be held 2p.m. Saturday Feb 5,2005 at the Whiting Cemetery,with Pastor Barry Blackstone officiating.
