Born June 16, 1907, to John P. and Katherine (Jacoby) Webber in Russia. She was 6 years old when she traveled with her parents and four sibilings from Russia and settled in Chicago for a few years. The family then moved to Johnstown. Marie married Carl Thiel in Johnstown on Jan. 1, 1932 (he died in 1966).

Marie worked for the University of Northern Colorado in food services for about 16 years. She enjoyed being a homemaker. She rented out her basement, and enjoyed the company of her renters. She loved gardening, especially her raspberry patch, cooking and reading, and made at least 50 afghans. She was a baby sitter for many families in Greeley.

Mrs. Thiel was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and also belonged to a sewing group.

She is survived by 2 daughters; a sons; two sisters; a brother; 7 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Six sisters and brothers are deceased.
