PRINCETON — Lorraine Rogers Stinson, 94, of GlenWood Park Retirement Village in Princeton, formerly of 419 Mountain Lane in Bluefield, Va., died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011 at her residence. Lorraine was born at Gardner, W.Va. at the site of the Bluestone Land and Lumber Company on April 24, 1916. She was the youngest daughter born to L.C. Rogers and Dora Shumate Rogers. The family later moved to Princeton where she graduated from Princeton High School in 1934. Lorraine attended Concord College and graduated in 1938 with a degree in physical education. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin and Concord receiving an additional degree in English. She began her teaching career in Bramwell, W.Va. then moving on to Wade School in Bluefield. She finished her teaching career at Princeton Junior High School. She had taught a total of twenty-nine years in Mercer County. Lorraine and her husband Joe had been members of the Twilight Twirlers square dancing club for twenty-five years with their special friends, Ethel and Harry McColgan. In addition to her parents, her husband of sixty-four years, Joseph S. Stinson; and two sisters, Helen Rogers and Pauline Rogers Stout preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son, Pat Stinson and his wife Debra Kilgore of Princeton; two granddaughters, Mary Elizabeth Stinson of Charlotte, N.C. and Coleen Martinez and her husband Oscar Martinez of Houston, Texas; and two great-grandsons, Joshua Martinez and William Martinez.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 at Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Green Valley with the Reverend Ray Amos officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton form 10:30 a.m. until the service hour on Friday.
