Friday 12 August 1904:
"Mr. Bryan Walsh, an old and respected citizen of Piedmont was killed here last Sunday August 7, 1904.
Mr. Walsh who was 65 years of age, had been for a number of years watchman for the B. & O. railroad, and was stationed a short distance west of Piedmont along the river just opposite the pulp mills.
It seems that a freight car was being taken down the side track next to the river that morning and at the time the pulp mill was blowing off the steam from its boilers which obscured his sight and he thought the noise he heard was from a train on the south track.
He was born in Ireland but has spent nearly all his life at Piedmont. He is survived by five children: Misses Mary Ellen and Bridget and Messrs. Thomas, James and Joseph Walsh, all of whom are single and reside at home.
Mr. Walsh spent his life in the service of the B. & O. and assisted to build the Philadelphia branch.
The funeral took place Tuesday from St. Peters Catholic church. Among those who attended were his brother Mr. Richard Walsh and wife, Mr. Thomas J. Welsh and Miss Della Thornton all of Baltimore; Mr. John Walsh and two sons Thomas and Richard of Pittsburgh; Mr .Thomas Lee and wife and Mr. John Nee and wife of Cumberland.
Mr. Thomas Walsh, son of the deceased is quite ill with typhoid fever."
