Sophie MARIE Spatholt was born on April 20, 1830, in Bresewitz, a village in the former Mecklenburg-Strelitz, near the Baltic Sea. The oldest of three children, she and her sister Wilhelmina Albertina Friedrika Spatholt emigrated from Germany with Marie's husband, August Biederstadt, in 1858. They arrived on May 26 on the ship Main in New York and came to Adams Township, settling on a farm where they had 7 children, including triplet sons, all of whom died as infants. In 1862 her brother Johann immigrated and lived on the farm next to hers. The couple moved to Napoleon where Marie died on June 8, 1877, at age 47.
