THE LEBANON ENTERPRISE, page 2, Friday, November 15, 1901. DEATHS.
Mrs. Ellen Barker, aged 45 years, wife of Mr. F. B. Barker, of this city, died at the residence of her husband last Thursday evening. About ten days before Mrs. Barker was stricken with typhoid fever. It was thought a few hours before the fatal summons came that she was much better and hope lingered in the hearts of those who watched faithfully by her side. Dreadful hemorrhages followed however, which caused her condition to change for the worse and soon all was over. Mrs. Barker was the daughter of Captain William Rains and sister of Mr. James Rains the Water Company's Superintendent of this city. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at the Methodist church (here their is a line in the microfilmed copy creased and thus obliterated) E. Murray, Presiding Elder, after which her remains were taken to Ryder cemetery for interment. In the past few months, the family has had much sickness and death. First the mother, Mrs. Rains, was carried away by heart trouble. Mr. Warren Russell died of typhoid fever. Mr. Russell's wife who is a sister of Mrs. Barker, deceased, at the home of her husband's death was seriously ill at Elizabeth Hospital with typhoid fever. So serious was her condition that her husband's death and burial was held from her for about four weeks. While Mrs. Barker was lying on her bed of death, her little step-daughter, Russell Barker, age 12, who is now recovering, was struggling for life in the grasp of the same fatal malady. Truly has it been said trouble never comes single handed, but the deceased bore all these without a murmur. The family have the sympathy of many friends.
