Buddy was the son of Leonard Rush "L.R." Hamrick (1885-1952) and Permelia Angaline "Mealy" Dennis (1889-1965) born somewhere in Texas. He married Illene Faye Argo (1913-1996), daughter of Mayfield Argo (1884-1944) and Anna Argo (1890-1927) on May 18, 1931 in Texas. They had two daughters: Joan Faye Hamrick Pollock (1934-2008) and June Lorene Hamrick Jacob (1936-2008).
