James CLAYPOOLE was born on 14 Feb 1701 in New Castle, Sussex Co, DE, US. He died on 9 Oct 1789 in Lost River, Hardy Co, WV, US. He was a fabric weaver. He and his cousins sold their land in DE, 20 acres in Lewes,and moved west to the Shenandoah Valley of VA about 1745. They settled in Rockingham and Augusta Counties near Brocks Gap, Linville Creek and Mill Creek where he co-built a mill in 1751. James and family left there about 1755 and settled at Lost River, Hardy Co, WV. He helped build a road to Fredericksburg, VA. DAR Records list him for patriotic service during the Revolution. Son of James Claypoole, Sr. and Mary Cann. Married Jane (?Byrd?) Claypoole about 1729. Father of William Claypoole, James Claypoole, John Claypoole, Joseph Claypoole, Mary Claypoole, Elizabeth Claypoole, Sarah Claypoole, George Claypoole, and Jesse Claypoole. James is my 6th great-grandfather.
