She is survived by second husband James P. Bland, two daughters, Maryanne (Turner) and Carolyn (Humphrey), 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and her sister Esther (Mullins).
Velma was postmaster in Naoma, WV from 1955 to 1971. After that she worked as an executive secretary in Palm Beach, FL for 19 years before returning to WV.
Velma was a member of the Beckley Presbyterian Church, Town and Country Homemakers Club, Women's Club of Beckley, Friends of the Library, and was a volunteer at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.
Services were held at the Beckley Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robin Debnam presiding.
