Interment in Providence Memorial Cemetery in Winnsboro, LA under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA.

On May 6, 1924 in Monticello, LA, Alma was born to Walter and Edna Cantwell, the fourth daughter of six children, all girls.

Walter and Edna were farmers so Alma was raised on a farm in East Carroll Parish, where she met her husband, Billy Kirksey.

The beautiful story was told many times of one afternoon, when six year old Alma was helping her teacher clean the schoolroom and was cleaning desk and found a love note from Billy Kirksey, written to her but crumpled and crammed in his desk. True, childhood sweethearts, the handsome couple, Alma Cantwell and Billy Kirksey married November 24, 1942.

Their marriage union brought forth four children, (three daughters and a baby son). Alma then became known as "Mother" and a loving and devoted mother she was. All four children remember the warmth of their family home that they grew up in. Their home was always filled with wonderful smells from the kitchen, the scent of clean linens and the smell of a steam iron. There never was and never will be a Mother so proud of her four children.

Mrs. Kirksey will be fondly remembered by many of her devotion to her husband and support of his ministry. Together, they founded Bethany Baptist Church in West Monroe in 1971 and although they retired in the late 90's, the fellowship remains today. A loving pastor's wife, she loved her position in the ministry. As a pastor's wife, she was always busy with counseling church members, preparing for incoming evangelists, planning weddings and baby showers and making sure that the church was always pristine.

Alma is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Billy in 1997. She never ceased to talk of him and dream of their lived together.

Alma Cantwell Kirksey is survived by her loving daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Sue and L.J. Franz of New Orleans, Judy and Don Blair of Monroe, and Diane and David Diamond of Baton Rouge; her only son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Grace Kirksey of West Monroe; sister and brother-in-law, Gayle and Nolan Smith of West Monroe; twelve grandchildren, Jimmie Ray Ogden, Stacy Dans, David Michael Diamond, Heather Mora, Jeremy Diamond, Brian Diamond, Melissa Ary, Nick Diamond, Joe Kirksey, Sarah Kirksey, Zach Kirksey, and Anna Kirksey, and seventeen great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jimmie Ogden, Joe Kirksey, Zach Kirksey, David Michael Diamond, Jeremy Diamond, and Daniel Mora.
