Salathiel was the son of Joseph Peirson (Pierson) Sr. of Maidenhead Twp., old Hunterdon Co., NJ (now Lawrence Twp., Mercer Co.). He is presumed to have been born in Maidenhead, since his father was there by 1734, and died in Maidenhead Twp. as well. He was a weaver, and served as a township freeholder, commissioner of appeal, constable and overseer of roads. In 1780, he received a bushel of corn for a two-horse team that was impressed into Continental Service, making his descendants eligible for lineage-society membership. He was executor of the estate of Ephraim Titus (perhaps a relative) in 1789.

Salathiel, like his father, signed his surname "Peirson." It is shown above as Pierson since his descendants use this spelling.

He was the uncle of Philip Peirson (son of his brother Ephraim), and also uncle of Jeremiah Reed Sr. (son of his sister Melicent).

Salathiel married Abigail, whose is thought to be a Cook (see her memorial for more information). They had 5 children together, as follows:

1. William Pierson, born 21 Sep. 1772, probably died before the father's will in Feb. 1806, since he is not mentioned therein;
2. Joseph, born 29 Aug. 1774--linked below;
3. Susannah, born 10 Jan. 1777, mentioned in her father's will as having a daughter Elizabeth Pierson;
4. Elizabeth, born 8 Aug. 1779, probably died before the father's will in Feb. 1806, since she is not mentioned therein; and
5. Sarah, born 10 Jan. 1783--linked below.

These children are listed in Alice Blackwell Lewis's book, Hopewell Valley Heritage, presumably based on a family Bible record, the whereabouts of which is currently unknown.
