Clement Hulbert was born 14 Jan 1820 in Medina, Richfield (now Summitt County), Ohio to Jared Hurlbut & Hannah Searles. His parents were early pioneers into Defiance County, moving to Farmer Township about 1836. Clement married Ellen Maria Farnsworth 20 June 1852 and they resided in Milford Township, Defiance County, Ohio all their married lives. They had five children, one of which was my angel grandmother, Edna. The children were: Wesley N. Hulbert (1853 - 1923), Rilla L Hulbert Jennings (1857 - 1942), Ida May Hulbert Everitt (1860 - 1939),
Edna Celestia Hulbert Law (1862 - 1949), Frank E. Hulbert (1866 - 1894).
Clement was a good Christian man, raised a fine family, farmed the land and worked very hard all his life. He must have been a kind and loving father as my grandmother,Edna, his daughter, exhibited the most wonderful Christ-like character traits. She was raised by parents who loved God and their family and taught their children to honor God, read the Bible, live good lives and never disappoint God. There was great family stability and religious sentiments and that was passed on to their posterity. He filled the office of Township Trustee of Milford Twp. so served his community well.
Clement left a will which started, "In the name of the Benevolent Father of all and called his wife beloved." This is just a little indication of his tenderness, his love for God and family.. He died 8 Apr 1889 in Defiance County, Ohio and is buried in the Lost Creek Cemetery, near Hicksville, Ohio.
I feel honored to be one of his descendants.
Note:
I am checking to see if he served in the Civil War as I have found his name in the index. Will add information here if I find it is my great, grandfather.
